Version: 1.0
1. INTRODUCTION
These Terms and Conditions govern participation in the StashBox Contents Protection Scheme ("the Scheme").
The Scheme is designed to provide customers with a defined level of contractual protection in respect of eligible goods stored within their allocated StashBox storage container following certain qualifying events.
Customers may select one of three levels of protection:
Protection LevelMaximum ProtectionMonthly Charge
Essential | £2,500 | £11.99
Standard – Most Popular | £5,000 | £19.99
Plus | £10,000 | £29.99
Essential | £2,500 | £11.99
Standard – Most Popular | £5,000 | £19.99
Plus | £10,000 | £29.99
All levels are subject to these Terms and Conditions, including the exclusions, excesses, claims requirements and maximum liability provisions.
The Scheme should be read alongside the customer's StashBox Storage Agreement.
2. DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of these Terms:
"Customer" means the person or business named on the relevant StashBox Storage Agreement.
"StashBox" means the entity operating the StashBox storage facility identified in the customer's Storage Agreement.
"Container" means the individual storage container allocated to the Customer.
"Stored Goods" means goods belonging to the Customer or which the Customer is legally entitled to store within the Container.
"Eligible Goods" means Stored Goods which are not excluded under these Terms.
"Protected Goods" means Eligible Goods covered under the Customer's selected protection level.
"Protection Limit" means the maximum amount payable under the Customer's selected level.
"Qualifying Event" means an event specifically listed in Section 8.
"Protection Charge" means the monthly amount payable by the Customer to participate in the Scheme.
"Excess" means the first £100 of each accepted claim, which is borne by the Customer.
"Storage Agreement" means the agreement governing the Customer's rental and use of the Container.
3. PROTECTION LEVELS
3.1 Essential Protection
Maximum Protection: £2,500
Monthly Charge: £11.99
Excess: £100 per accepted claim
Essential Protection is intended for customers whose total eligible Stored Goods have a value not exceeding £2,500.
3.2 Standard Protection
MOST POPULAR
Maximum Protection: £5,000
Monthly Charge: £19.99
Excess: £100 per accepted claim
Standard Protection is intended for customers requiring protection for eligible Stored Goods with a total value not exceeding £5,000.
3.3 Plus Protection
Maximum Protection: £10,000
Monthly Charge: £29.99
Excess: £100 per accepted claim
Plus Protection is intended for customers requiring protection for eligible Stored Goods with a total value not exceeding £10,000.
4. CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO SELECT ADEQUATE PROTECTION
The Customer is responsible for selecting a Protection Limit adequate for the total value of all Eligible Goods stored within the Container.
Customers should consider the total reasonable value of everything being stored.
For example, where Eligible Goods have a combined value of approximately £7,500, the Customer should select the £10,000 Plus level rather than the £5,000 Standard level.
The Protection Limit represents the maximum amount StashBox will pay in relation to an accepted claim and does not represent an automatic entitlement to that amount.
StashBox will not pay more than the Customer's established financial loss.
5. PAYMENT
The applicable Protection Charge is payable monthly in advance.
The Protection Charge will normally be collected together with the Customer's storage charges.
The Customer authorises StashBox to collect the selected monthly Protection Charge using the payment method provided for the Storage Agreement.
Failure to pay the Protection Charge may result in suspension or termination of participation in the Scheme, subject to applicable law and these Terms.
6. COMMENCEMENT OF PROTECTION
Protection begins from the date specified in the Customer's Contents Protection confirmation, provided:
- The Customer has entered into a valid Storage Agreement;
- The appropriate Protection Charge has been paid;
- The Customer has selected a Protection Level;
- The Container has been properly secured; and
- The Customer complies with these Terms.
Protection applies only to Eligible Goods while physically stored within the Customer's designated Container.
7. END OF PROTECTION
Protection ends when the earliest of the following occurs:
- The Customer's Storage Agreement terminates;
- The Customer permanently vacates the Container;
- The Customer cancels participation where permitted;
- StashBox terminates participation in accordance with these Terms; or
- The Customer fails to pay amounts due and protection is subsequently terminated.
Protection does not continue after the Stored Goods have been removed from the Container.
8. QUALIFYING EVENTS
Subject to all Terms and exclusions, StashBox may compensate the Customer for direct physical loss of or damage to Eligible Goods resulting from the following Qualifying Events.
8.1 Fire
Direct physical loss or damage caused by fire.
8.2 Explosion
Direct physical loss or damage caused by an accidental explosion.
8.3 Storm
Direct physical damage resulting from a severe storm, including where the storm causes physical damage to the Container which subsequently damages Eligible Goods.
8.4 Flood
Direct physical damage resulting from sudden flooding of the storage facility.
8.5 Escape of Water
Direct physical damage caused by the sudden and unexpected escape of water from fixed water installations at the facility.
8.6 Theft
Loss resulting from theft following identifiable forcible or violent entry into the Customer's properly secured Container.
8.7 Attempted Theft
Physical damage to Eligible Goods caused directly by an attempted theft involving forcible or violent entry.
8.8 Malicious Damage
Intentional physical damage caused by an unauthorised third party who has unlawfully entered the Container.
8.9 Vehicle Impact
Physical damage resulting directly from accidental impact by a motor vehicle.
8.10 Aircraft Impact
Physical damage resulting directly from an aircraft or an object falling from an aircraft.
9. THEFT AND ATTEMPTED THEFT
Claims for theft or attempted theft will normally require evidence demonstrating forcible or violent entry into the Container.
The Customer must promptly:
- Notify StashBox;
- Notify the appropriate police authority;
- Obtain a crime reference number;
- Preserve evidence of the break-in;
- Provide photographs where reasonably possible;
- Identify missing or damaged goods; and
- Cooperate with StashBox's investigation.
Unexplained disappearance of goods is not a Qualifying Event.
10. SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
Customers remain responsible for properly securing their individual Containers.
Whenever unattended, the Container must be properly closed and secured with a suitable high-security padlock approved or recommended by StashBox.
The Customer must take reasonable precautions to prevent unauthorised access.
Access codes, keys, passwords or padlock combinations should not be disclosed to unauthorised persons.
StashBox may operate security measures including:
- Controlled gate access;
- CCTV monitoring;
- Perimeter fencing;
- Security lighting;
- Access records; and
- Other security measures.
These measures are intended to reduce risk but cannot guarantee that theft, damage or other incidents will never occur.
11. CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES
Customers must take reasonable care of their Stored Goods.
This includes:
- Packing goods appropriately;
- Protecting fragile items;
- Protecting goods susceptible to moisture;
- Keeping Stored Goods reasonably organised;
- Not storing prohibited goods;
- Properly securing the Container;
- Taking reasonable action to minimise loss;
- Providing accurate information to StashBox; and
- Selecting an adequate Protection Limit.
12. EXCLUDED GOODS
Unless expressly agreed otherwise by StashBox in writing, the following are excluded:
- Cash;
- Currency;
- Credit and debit cards;
- Cheques;
- Bonds;
- Securities;
- Financial instruments;
- Jewellery;
- Precious stones;
- Gold;
- Silver;
- Precious metals;
- High-value watches;
- Fine art;
- High-value antiques;
- Collectable coins;
- Collectable stamps;
- Irreplaceable documents;
- Passports;
- Firearms;
- Ammunition;

- Flammable liquids;
- Gas cylinders unless expressly permitted;
- Perishable goods;
- Refrigerated goods;
- Live plants;
- Animals; and
- Any goods prohibited by the Storage Agreement.
13. EXCLUDED CAUSES OF LOSS OR DAMAGE
The Scheme does not provide protection for loss or damage resulting from:
- Normal wear and tear;
- Gradual deterioration;
- Age;
- Rust;
- Corrosion;
- Oxidation;
- Condensation;
- Humidity;
- Atmospheric conditions;
- Temperature variation;
- Mould or mildew, unless directly resulting from a Qualifying Event;
- Vermin;
- Rodents;
- Insects;
- Pests;
- Inherent defects;
- Mechanical breakdown;
- Electrical breakdown;
- Defective packing;
- Inadequate packing;
- Failure to adequately protect fragile goods;
- Unexplained disappearance;
- Deliberate damage caused by the Customer;
- Fraud;
- Dishonesty;
- Illegal activity; or
- Confiscation or seizure by a lawful authority.
14. CONDENSATION AND MOISTURE
Customers acknowledge that standard storage containers are not necessarily climate-controlled environments.
Goods susceptible to changes in temperature, atmospheric moisture or condensation must be appropriately packed and protected.
Damage arising solely from condensation, gradual moisture accumulation, inadequate packing or atmospheric conditions is excluded.
This does not necessarily prevent a claim where water damage results directly from a separate Qualifying Event.
15. CUSTOMER VALUATION
The Customer is responsible for maintaining an appropriate record of significant goods placed into storage.
Customers are strongly encouraged to retain:
- Receipts;
- Purchase invoices;
- Photographs;
- Serial numbers;
- Bank or card statements;
- Professional valuations; and
- Other reasonable evidence of ownership and value.
StashBox may request such evidence when assessing a claim.
16. BASIS OF SETTLEMENT
Where a claim is accepted, StashBox will determine the reasonable financial loss suffered by the Customer.
When determining an appropriate settlement, StashBox may consider:
- Original purchase price;
- Age;
- Condition;
- Previous damage;
- Depreciation;
- Current reasonable value;
- Reasonable repair costs; and
- Cost of obtaining an equivalent replacement.
StashBox may settle an accepted claim by:
- Paying the reasonable value of the affected item;
- Paying reasonable repair costs;
- Replacing the affected item with an equivalent item; or
- Agreeing another reasonable settlement with the Customer.
No Customer will be entitled to profit from a claim.
17. MAXIMUM LIABILITY
StashBox's maximum liability for a single accepted claim will not exceed the Customer's selected Protection Limit:
Essential: £2,500
Standard: £5,000
Plus: £10,000
The Customer cannot recover more than their actual established financial loss.
The applicable £100 excess will normally be deducted from the amount otherwise payable.
18. £100 EXCESS
Each accepted claim is subject to a:
£100 CUSTOMER EXCESS
The excess is deducted from the accepted claim amount.
Example:
Accepted loss: £2,000
Less excess: £100
Amount payable: £1,900
Less excess: £100
Amount payable: £1,900
StashBox may waive the excess at its discretion.
19. UNDER-PROTECTION
Customers are responsible for selecting a Protection Limit sufficient for the total value of Eligible Goods.
Where the Customer's Stored Goods exceed the selected Protection Limit, StashBox's maximum liability remains limited to the selected Protection Limit.
StashBox may require a Customer to increase their Protection Level where StashBox reasonably believes the selected limit is inadequate.
20. MAKING A CLAIM
The Customer should notify StashBox as soon as reasonably possible after discovering loss or damage.
The Customer should provide:
Customer name:
Contact details:
Container number:
Date incident occurred or was discovered:
Description of incident:
Description of affected goods:

- Requesting further reasonable information from the Customer.
The Customer must provide reasonable cooperation.
22. DAMAGED GOODS
Customers should not dispose of damaged goods until StashBox confirms that they may do so where inspection is reasonably required.
StashBox may request an opportunity to inspect the affected goods.
Where an item can reasonably and economically be repaired, StashBox may offer to meet the reasonable repair cost rather than replacing the item.
23. CUSTOMER'S DUTY TO MINIMISE LOSS
Following an incident, Customers must take reasonable action to prevent further damage, provided it is safe to do so.
For example, this may include moving unaffected goods away from water following a qualifying water incident.
A Customer must not deliberately increase the amount of a loss.
24. FRAUDULENT OR EXAGGERATED CLAIMS
StashBox may reject a claim where a Customer deliberately:
- Provides false information;
- Submits false documents;
- Claims for goods which were never stored;
- Claims for goods they did not own or have responsibility for;
- Inflates the value of goods;
- Fabricates an incident;
- Deliberately causes damage; or
- Otherwise attempts to obtain compensation dishonestly.
StashBox reserves the right to report suspected criminal activity to the appropriate authorities.
25. OTHER COMPENSATION OR INSURANCE
Customers must tell StashBox if they are entitled to compensation from another party or insurance policy for the same loss.
A Customer cannot recover more than the actual amount of their financial loss by making claims against multiple parties.
26. PROTECTION SCHEME RESERVE
StashBox may maintain a financial reserve to assist in meeting liabilities arising from accepted claims under the Scheme.
Protection Charges received from Customers may be used for purposes including:
- Meeting accepted claims;
- Administration of the Scheme;
- Security;
- Loss prevention;
- CCTV;
- Access-control systems;
- Professional expenses; and
- Other costs associated with operating the Scheme and storage facility.
Payment of a Protection Charge does not give an individual Customer ownership of, or entitlement to, any specific portion of any reserve maintained by StashBox.
27. COMPLAINTS
Customers who are dissatisfied with the administration of the Scheme or handling of a claim should contact:
StashBox Customer Services
Email: enquiries@stashbox.uk
Email: enquiries@stashbox.uk
The complaint should include:
- Customer name;
- Container number;
- Contact information;
- Details of the complaint; and
- The outcome being requested.
StashBox will investigate complaints and provide a response within a reasonable period.
Nothing in this complaints procedure affects the Customer's statutory rights or ability to pursue other remedies available by law.
28. CANCELLATION
Customers may request cancellation of their participation in the Scheme in accordance with their contractual and statutory rights.
Cancellation will not retrospectively remove protection applicable to a Qualifying Event which occurred while valid protection was in force.
No protection applies to incidents occurring after the effective cancellation date.
29. CHANGING PROTECTION LEVEL
Customers may request to increase or decrease their Protection Level.
Available levels are:
£2,500 – £11.99/month
£5,000 – £19.99/month
£10,000 – £29.99/month
Changes take effect from the date confirmed by StashBox.
A Customer cannot retrospectively increase their Protection Limit after a loss or incident has occurred.
30. CHANGES TO THE SCHEME
StashBox may amend the Scheme, including its charges, Protection Limits, exclusions, excesses and other Terms, subject to the Storage Agreement and applicable law.
Where required, StashBox will provide reasonable notice before material changes take effect.
31. TRANSFER
Participation in the Scheme is personal to the Customer named on the Storage Agreement and cannot be transferred without StashBox's written agreement.
32. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts any liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
Any contractual limitation contained in these Terms must be interpreted subject to applicable consumer protection legislation and other applicable law.
33. RELATIONSHIP WITH STORAGE AGREEMENT
These Contents Protection Terms supplement the StashBox Storage Agreement.
The Customer remains responsible for complying with all requirements of the Storage Agreement.
Participation in the Scheme does not remove or replace any Customer responsibility under the Storage Agreement.
34. THIRD-PARTY RIGHTS
Unless applicable law provides otherwise, a person who is not a party to the relevant Storage Agreement and Contents Protection arrangement will have no right to enforce these Terms.
35. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
For Customers contracting with the StashBox Aberdeen facility, these Terms are intended to be governed by Scots law.
The jurisdiction provisions applicable to consumers will be subject to any mandatory rights available to them under applicable law.
36. IMPORTANT REGULATORY NOTICE
The StashBox Contents Protection Scheme is intended to operate as part of StashBox's contractual arrangements with its storage customers.
However, whether an arrangement constitutes a regulated contract of insurance or another regulated financial activity is determined by applicable law and the substance of the arrangement rather than simply the terminology used within the contract.
StashBox should obtain appropriate professional regulatory advice before launching the Scheme or collecting Protection Charges from customers.
Nothing within these Terms should be interpreted as attempting to avoid any regulatory obligation that legally applies to StashBox.
